One of the most popular mountain biking trails in Southern California, Marshall Canyon is remarkable for its varied and beautiful terrain. The canopy of oaks towering above the first leg of the trail conjures up images of Sherwood Forest. The oaks, foliage and streams help keep the trail cool and shady. There is a little bit of everything here: single track, double track, wide horse trails, fire road climbs, rocky streams, a few fun jumps, and undulating terrain. The downhill is fast and flowy–not too technical. Marshall Canyon connects to Claremont Loop– an additional 5 miles, and 800 vertical feet, as well Potato Mountain, which serves as good endurance training for XC athletes.
Overall, Marshall is a fun easy ride with the buddies. It’s a good trail to introduce beginners to the sport as well. I take my 6 year-old son to ride here, and he just loves it.
